Where Tuscan Nature Restores Body and Soul
The far side has no edge — the water runs over it and falls into the channel below, and you hear that from anywhere on the terrace. Swim to that end and there is nothing between you and the valley, with Pescia below to the south and the ridges behind it. It is not overlooked, and it is not shared with
anyone but the people staying here
Kettlebells, TRX straps and open air, under the olive trees. No mirrors, no music, no membership, and nobody waiting for the bench. The yoga zone is a few steps away — mats are there, massage rollers too – all under the open Tuscan sky.
The water is heated by wood cut on the estate, in a burner underneath the jacuzzi. We light it in the afternoon so it is ready when the Tuscan sun sets — which is when most people bring a glass down and get in, and the valley does the rest. The cold plunge sits beside it. No fire under that one, and it is genuinely cold. Hot water, then cold, then stand in the air for a minute and look at the valley. Go round again two or three times, or don’t. Nobody is timing you.
A few steps from the water there are benches and a table, which is where most people end up afterwards. Bring a bottle of prosecco down, or a pot of herbal tea, and sit in the air until you have stopped steaming. That part matters more than people expect
Three of the four apartments have their original stone fireplace, still working — every one but Il Fienile. The wood is ours, cut on the estate, and there is a basket by the hearth when you arrive with more outside whenever you want it. Olive wood burns slowly and cracks while it goes, and it smells like the grove it came out of. In November that is where the evening happens: the fire lit early, a glass of something red, the hills outside gone dark and quiet, and nobody suggesting anything else.
A mountain spring supplies La Marginella with a natural source of water – and we’ve refined it to supply guests with cleaned, refined – and even sparkling – natural mineral water. No more hauling endless heavy litres of water from the supermarket. Just refill the glass carafe waiting for you upon arrival.
